MatterReady + Clio
A qualification layer that makes your Clio data better.
Better data in, better outcomes out
MatterReady sits alongside Clio as a qualification layer. We collect structured client information, score it for readiness, and surface conflict signals — then sync clean, complete data into Clio when matters are ready.
The result: attorneys spend less time on incomplete intake, staff spend less time chasing missing information, and the data in your Clio instance is more reliable from the start.
Bidirectional with both products
MatterReady integrates with Clio Manage and Clio Grow. Both connections are bidirectional — we read data from Clio and push qualified data back.
Clio Manage
MatterReady reads existing contacts and matter data from Manage to avoid duplicates and enrich intake. When a matter is qualified and ready, we push contacts, matter details, custom fields, documents, and notes back to Manage with everything in place.
Clio Grow
Leads flow from Grow into MatterReady for qualification. As leads progress through intake, status updates and enriched data sync back to Grow. Your marketing CRM stays current while MatterReady handles the qualification work.
What syncs
Contacts
Client contact information syncs between MatterReady and Clio. Existing contacts are matched to prevent duplicates. New contacts are created in Clio when matters qualify.
Matters
Qualified matters push to Clio with practice area, description, and status already set. Matter data is structured and complete before it arrives.
Custom Fields
MatterReady maps intake data to your Clio custom fields. Practice-area specific information lands in the right fields without manual data entry.
Documents
Intake documents, engagement letters, and e-signed agreements sync to the matter in Clio. Everything is attached before the attorney opens the file.
Notes
Qualification summaries, intake notes, and conflict signal reports sync as notes on the Clio matter. Context arrives with the data.
Staff Mapping
MatterReady maps your firm's staff to Clio users. Attorney assignments in MatterReady carry through to Clio so matters land with the right person.
We meet firms where they are
Every firm uses Clio differently. MatterReady adapts to your workflow, not the other way around.
Using Grow + Manage
Leads come in through Grow. MatterReady pulls them for qualification, collects structured intake data, and syncs qualified matters to Manage with everything in place. Grow stays current as leads progress.
Using Manage only
MatterReady handles lead capture and qualification directly. When matters are ready, they sync to Manage with contacts, custom fields, and documents. No Grow subscription needed.
Hybrid workflow
Some leads come through Grow, others through your website or referrals. MatterReady qualifies all of them in one place and syncs to whichever Clio product you use for each workflow.
Setup
Connecting MatterReady to Clio takes a few minutes. No engineering support required.
Click “Connect Clio” in your MatterReady settings. You'll be redirected to Clio to authorize access. MatterReady never sees your Clio password.
MatterReady imports your Clio users and lets you map them to MatterReady staff accounts. This ensures attorney assignments carry through correctly.
Tell MatterReady which intake fields should map to which Clio custom fields. Default mappings are provided for common practice areas.
Decide when matters sync to Clio — automatically when they reach a readiness threshold, or manually when your team approves them.
Most firms complete setup in under 30 minutes. If you need help, reach out to hello@matterready.io.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does MatterReady handle duplicate contacts?
MatterReady matches incoming intake data against existing Clio contacts using email address, phone number, and name matching. When a match is found, we update the existing contact rather than creating a duplicate. You can review matches before they sync.
Does MatterReady sync calendar events to Clio?
MatterReady's built-in scheduler syncs with Google and Outlook calendars. Consultations are tracked within MatterReady and noted on the Clio matter. For firms using Clio's calendar, we can sync availability to avoid double-booking.
How does staff mapping work?
During setup, MatterReady imports your Clio user list and lets you match each Clio user to a MatterReady staff account. When a matter is assigned to an attorney in MatterReady, the corresponding Clio user is set as the responsible attorney on the synced matter.
Are matters created as “pending” or “open” in Clio?
By default, matters sync to Clio with a “pending” status. Your team can then open them in Clio after final review. This is configurable — some firms prefer matters to arrive as “open” when readiness scores are high enough.
What happens if I disconnect the integration?
Disconnecting stops future syncs. Data already in Clio stays in Clio. Data in MatterReady stays in MatterReady. You can reconnect at any time and resume syncing.
Does MatterReady replace Clio Grow?
No. MatterReady works alongside Clio Grow. Grow is your marketing CRM for tracking leads and campaigns. MatterReady is a qualification layer — we focus on collecting complete intake data, scoring readiness, and surfacing conflict signals. They serve different functions and work well together.
Can I use MatterReady without Clio?
Yes. MatterReady works as a standalone intake qualification system. The Clio integration is optional. Firms that don't use Clio can still benefit from structured intake, readiness scoring, conflict signals, and all other features.
